Protest against non-open consultation of doctors
Perumal Pillai, head of the legal protest group for government doctors, has said that they will go on a hunger strike in Chennai on September 28 with the families of the affected government doctors who are protesting against the open consultation of doctors.
CHENNAI: President of the Legislative Committee for Government Doctors in Chennai, Perumal Pillai said, “The doctors who can be appointed in the various treatment departments in the medical colleges should be the doctors who have completed their post-graduate studies in their respective fields. Only by such appointment will the general public who can visit the government hospitals get proper treatment.
However, the outcome of the consultation held last June has not been made clear. Due to this unqualified doctors are being appointed in some places. During the last AIADMK regime, in 2019, when the doctors went on a hunger strike at the Rajiv Gandhi Government Hospital in Chennai, the current chief minister, who was the leader of the opposition, is going to be next in power.
Then he promised us that your request will be fulfilled. But now even after becoming the Chief Minister, our demand has not been fulfilled and has been shelved. Chief Minister M.K., who has been implementing various projects in the name of DMK leader Karunanidhi. Stalin is refusing to implement Executive Order 354 passed by former Chief Minister Karunanidhi.
Pay hike for doctors should be given. This government does not seem to be listening and implementing that too. Also, there has been a malpractice in the current promotions given to government doctors.
We have complained to the Minister and Secretary of Medical and Public Welfare about the irregularities in the medical consultation. It has not been properly investigated till now.
In this way, what should be properly made available to the government doctors is being shelved. In protest against this, on September 28, 22 government doctors who were affected in Chennai along with their families will go on a hunger strike in Chennai. Those affected by the salary increase of doctors will also join the protest," he said.
