'Irregularity in transfer, promotion' - Govt doctors decide to go on hunger strike with family

Chennai: The statement issued by him in this regard: "The Minister of Health has said that the transfer consultation for doctors held last May and June in Tamil Nadu was held honestly. However, it was not done honestly. Therefore, in this transfer consultation, 25 government doctors who were affected by malpractices with the help of the Legal Action Committee of the Minister on 22.6.22 Following this, the minister conducted an inquiry through his special assistant and it was confirmed that 25 doctors had been wronged.

The rationale is to have experts who have specialized training in a particular field. Only then the services of that specialist doctor will be available to the people. Also, that doctor will also get field experience. But, even if there are specialist doctors, instead of appointing them, they appoint doctors with other education. This is a violation of the norms of the Medical Council of India by the government. Due to this the patients are severely affected.

When this unfair practice was taken to the Minister, the Minister had assured the Legal Action Committee that the mistakes would definitely be rectified and qualified specialist doctors would be posted at the right place. However, till date only those who are not eligible have been admitted. Hence unqualified doctors in certain fields should be transferred. In this regard, the Legal Advocacy Committee, along with six doctors in the Department of Anesthesiology, Madurai Government Rajaji Hospital, should conclude the ongoing case in the Madras High Court.

Similarly, Dharmapuri has four slots in the field for brain and spine surgeons. One seat is vacant. All the three people in that job are not qualified for that department. Dr. Udayabharathi, a neurosurgeon from the district, wanted to fill even that one vacancy. But they refused to give him even that vacant seat and sent him to Vellore. As a result, all head injury and accident patients who come to Dharmapuri are sent to Salem. Due to this many people die on the way to Salem.

How is it that a doctor has suddenly been appointed in Salem Government Mohan Kumaramangalam Medical College Hospital in the Department of Child Health without any counseling? It is not acceptable to issue orders in flagrant violation of rules and regulations in this regard. Also, the doctors who were promoted illegally should be investigated and if it is true that the promotion was given in violation of the rules, the responsible persons should be immediately investigated and action should be taken in this regard.

During the doctors' protest at Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital in 2019, current Chief Minister Stalin had promised that the wage demands of government doctors would be met under the DMK regime. However, that request has not been fulfilled even today. The Chief Minister, who is implementing various schemes in the artist's name, should immediately order the implementation of Ordinance 354 issued during the artist's reign.

In order to draw the attention of the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu to demand immediate justice for government doctors affected by malpractices and to implement Ordinance 354, we are going to hold a 'Government Doctors fast with family' in Chennai on September 28.

Therefore, we request the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu to fulfill the reasonable demands of the government doctors before this protest and to facilitate the doctors to work more enthusiastically," he said.
